Snehana

Snehana are procedures that are recommended with lubrication is required. Lubrication could be for the whole body, eyes, ear, head. Below are some of the common snehana proceudres that are conducted in Swaasthya:

some Snehana procedures can be without doctors consultation for maintennce of the body. These procedures are largely couducted by Ayurvedic therapists who are trained in Panchakarma treatments. Some of the procedures like tarpana and karnapoorna are conducted under doctor’s supervion. Kids can also be prescribed these treatments

Abhyangam is a traditional Ayurvedic full body massage with medicated oil and by using certain amount of pressure in specific directions. It is a unique procedure which acts both on body and mind to relax. It can be applied to the whole body or locally based on purpose/Condition. Abhyangam at Swaasthya includes head, face, full body(front and back), steaming and shower. Sometimes the treatment would be customized as directed by our doctor. It can be a part of the steps of panchakarma or as a part of dinacharya(daily practices). 

Oils used for self abhyanga:

vata body type- til taila(sesame oil), olive oil

pitta body type – coconut oil, neem oil

kapha body type – camphor oil, almond oil

Netra tarpana is made of two words netra which means eyes and tarpana which means rehydration. Netra tarpana is a procedure where circular formed frames made of a powdered masha paste are placed around the eyes and lukewarm medicated ghee is poured into it. Ghee will be prescribed by doctors based on condition.

KARNAPOORANA

Karnapoorana is the cleansing therapy for ears. It is the process in which warm medicated oil is poured slowly to ears. This process helps to clear the ear and avoid ailments associates to the ears. Karna poorana helps to remove any small or chronic pain in the ears.

SHIRO DHARA

Shirodhara is a form of ayurvedic therapy that involves gently pouring medicated warm oil/herbal decoctions/medicated milk/buttermilk over the forehead from a specific height for a specific period and named after the liquids like tailadhara, takradhara, ksheeradhara etc…Medicine is prescribed by doctors. It begins with a full body massage, works by relaxing the hypothalamus in the brain and also normalize the functions of hormones that regulates sleep and emotions. It immediately acts to calm and relax mind and has a cleansing effect on the nerves.

Contra indications:

  • Final stage of pregnancy
  • Persons with neck injury or cuts/abrasions on forehead
